We have all been suffering the long wet and dreary weather that does not encourage much activity. It is now some twenty years since I first exercised with the original group when like most I was eager to give it my best shot but now having graduated to the “Sit fit” I sometimes wonder if I can keep up when my arms and legs get flagging but then I look round to find that it is not only me who is tiring. The fact is that since I joined Poole heart support group I have got old and now live in a retirement village where we do have some useful facilities.

At PHSG we were encouraged by our lovely lady instructors but here we have Dan who has helped my ailing situation by pummelling my legs on the massage table for half an hour. Dan is not only an instructor but also competes in power lifting as well as coaching rugby and qualified in aquarobic so is taken seriously.

As we age we all need a little help and although our flat here is not as nice as our home in Poole we do get assistance and we are no longer isolated as all the folk here are a very sociable bunch when we meet up in the Manor House for tea and coffee or join an outing. The flat is cleaned once a week and the staff bring all the gear including the sweeper. Our washing is collected every fortnight and returned ironed next day. The cleaning is £10 a week and the washing £14. The details are on my web site.

The horrid winter and residents lack of energy has prompted a surge in the use of broad band particularly for on line shopping so we have had visits from age concern instructors to give us the benefit of their knowledge, however we suffer from the slowest broadband in the UK due to an inferior old long copper cable link to the exchange but we are getting the hang of it. Most find Waitrose an excellent choice as when delivering they take the goods into the kitchen, unpack it, check it, take back any unwanted items together with all the plastic bags and wrappings leaving us to put the goodies in the cupboards.

Of the 115 apartments only six now remain unsold so there are a lot of new folk settling in. I have managed to teach myself to make a web site to give residents as much information as possible It is not brilliant but I am learning.

Wishing you all well and better weather.
